A Talk with kiran Lee -Freelance designer

Kiran Lee is a freelance designer specialising in combining interiors and exterior landscapes, who came to talk to us about where she studied and development of her work after leaving university. She began by showing us a power point presentation that allowed us to have an insight about her interests, processes, trade shows she has attended and collaborating with other people as well as her difficulties with equipment and studio space to make her designs.

She discussed about where she studied and showed us her Degree Show. Through her work it is clear to see she is more interested in the larger scale work than small pieces which she explains she found great difficultly when leaving university because of lack of space but also explains how by keeping in contact with tutors you can use them for help with the use the facilities.
Her interests are primary about organic themes and materials, such as; plants, shapes and silhouettes.

She has exhibited her work in many trade shows including; the BBC garden party and craft fairs as well as exhibiting her work in Victoria baths in Manchester, which I found particular appealing because it is an old swimming baths cubical where she hung her work. She wanted to show it as it was once seen, closed off approach and turn into a cubical that has a more inviting atmosphere.

She mentions how it is important to document work which she didn’t do in the past and regrets.

By your limitations of space just has focused on small items such as handbags and scarf’s but found it uninteresting to expand further.
She has now found a studio place in Salford where she in continuing her work.

In my opinion I found his talk motivating about how she has continued her designs after education and how she explains how important it is to get your name out and go to trade shows.
